What an ArduPilot message means and what to do about it

What ArduPilot says:

Stand-by is for aircraft with two flight controllers: the switch (RCn_OPTION 76) tells this one that the other is flying. While it is on, this controller keeps its integrators and its heading and position errors at zero so that it can take over smoothly, and its crash check, thrust-loss check, parachute check, landing detector and hover-throttle learning are off. On a copter with one flight controller it must stay off: with stand-by on, steady errors are never corrected and the protective checks do not run.
