ChibiOS is the small real-time operating system ArduPilot runs on in STM32 flight controllers: it starts the threads, timers and drivers. The eight characters are the git commit of the ChibiOS source this firmware was built with. It changes only from one ArduPilot version to another and there is nothing to set; developers may ask for it in a bug report.
