The u-blox GPS says what it is
What ArduPilot says:
- GPS N: Legacy config unsupported
- GPS N: u-blox protocol: …
- u-blox supports L5 Band
- GPS N: u-blox protocol too old for CFG-VALGET/VALSET
- u-blox ……N HW: … SW: …
- GPS N: u-blox protocol supports CFG-VALGET/VALSET
Also explained here: 2 more
- u-blox N HW: … SW: …
- GPS N: u-blox module: …
At start-up a u-blox receiver tells ArduPilot what it is. “u-blox NEO-M8N 1 HW: … SW: …” gives the module name (when the module states one), the GPS number, a hardware code and the firmware; code 00190000 is an M9 or F9, 000A0000 an M10. “supports L5 Band” is a dual-band module. Version 4.7 adds “u-blox module”, “u-blox protocol” and whether the module can be configured the newer way, by CFG-VALGET/VALSET. “too old for CFG-VALGET/VALSET” is marked as a warning, yet for an M8 it is expected: ArduPilot goes on configuring it the older way. “Legacy config unsupported” is the reverse: only the newer way works.
A name or version that does not match what you bought usually means a clone. That matters only if the module also refuses settings: see “GPS 1: u-blox … configuration 0x…”.
